The Pied Piper of Hameln or Baron von Münchhausen is perhaps the most famous of the fabulous historical personalities who went about their business in the region. Many places pay tribute to the life’s work of these figures with little stories, monuments or even festivals.
The river of the same name has made its way through the lovely hills of the Weser Mountains. All in all, the Weser drains 14 percent of Germany’s land area on its way into the North Sea. Various passenger ships invite you to leisurely discover the innumerable meanders of the river.
It’s more sporty or even wilder on the bike. Whether on rapid mountain bike descents or along the 520 km Weser cycle path, you can enjoy the idyll of the region to its fullest. The tempting delicacies in the rustic inns along the way provide the longed-for refreshment after a whole day in the lush nature.
