One of the extremities of the Säntis, besides its spectacular view into 6 different countries (Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, France, and Italy) is the weather.
One can speak of luck that here, at the wettest place of Switzerland, with 2837 mm average annual precipitation, a considerable part of it floats as snow from the clouds. This led to the highest snow depth recorded in Switzerland in April 1999 at 816 cm. On average, the mountain is hit by 400 flashes per year. But even this should not be a reason to visit this majestic place with the 2307 m long Säntis suspension railroad. Also, the surroundings of the mountain are many highlights waiting to be discovered. The Lake Constance region as a scenic counterpart to the Alpstein massif does not only delight young and old with a jump into the cool water. In the Appenzell show dairy, for example, visitors can try to discover the secret behind the creation of the world-famous dairy product of the same name. In Flawil, just a few kilometers away, the hearts of all the goodies will beat faster when you visit the “Chocolate Factory of Happiness”.
